“He Cares for You”

Anxiety is not an unknown emotion. It is also not an unacknowledged one by God. He knows we are prone to worry and thus, He does not tell us to ignore worry, deny worry or run from it. Instead, He tells us how to live a worry-free life by considering the birds of the air and the lilies of the field (He takes care of them and reminds us that we are worth more than they to Him) and by casting all of our anxiety upon Him:
“Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.”
(I Peter 5:6-7)
Recently I realized that I have been encouraging fellow worry warts with a sentence fragment and as a result, an incomplete thought—“casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you”. That phrase is connected to the previous phrase which tells us to humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God. Casting anxiety has much to do with humility; living worry-free lives has much to do with humility. Actually, it can be said: “The presence of anxiety is directly related to the absence of humility.” How can that be? It can be because humbling ourselves under the mighty hand of God, and casting, or hurling, our anxieties on Him, requires trusting that Father knows best and that He cares for us.
Our shoulders are not broad enough to carry the anxieties we face in life—worries about our children, our marriages, our finances, our jobs and our solutions are not better than God’s solutions. Since we are God’s personal care, as He promised in I Peter 5:7, we can lay our worries on Him and be assured He cares for us.
“Said the robin to the sparrow, ‘I should really like to know
Why those anxious human beings rush around and worry so?’
Said the sparrow to the robin, ‘Oh, I think that it must be
That they have no Heavenly Father such as cares for you and me.’”
