“Come and have breakfast.”

Breakfast has long been my most favorite meal to eat out, and nothing beats the find of a new location to enjoy having it. Imagine, however, to have received this invitation from Jesus:
12 Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” Now none of the disciples dared ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord. – John 21: 12
The invitation was an intimate one, and I think the meal must have been delicious!
The upcoming New Year, 2020, just as any New Year, brings to mind the making of resolutions, along with many suggested focal points or themes as to how to make them. For example, I have read many articles suggesting that in order to make meaningful resolutions for 2020, we should ask ourselves a series of questions such as:
What quality do I most want to focus on this year?
Who is someone I can help achieve their most important resolution?
Who is someone I can choose to love unconditionally?
What one thing can you plan to do in 2020 that will matter most in ten years? In eternity?
What’s the biggest time-waster in your life and how can you better use, or redeem your time in 2020?
I am not suggesting these are insignificant questions to ponder and to which to respond, but I am suggesting that it might be better to focus on Jesus’ invitations instead of the above interrogations. We find Jesus extending several invitations in Scripture.
Come and see (John 1: 39)
Come and learn (Matthew 11: 28-29)
Come and rest (Mark 6: 31)
Come and dine (John 21: 12)
Come and inherit (Matthew 25: 34-36)
Perhaps accepting these invitations to come and see, learn, rest, dine, and inherit, would grant 2020 as your best year ever!
