“The Great Exchange”
December 30, 2022The week following Christmas day is often filled with exchanging those Christmas gifts which may have been the wrong color, size, brand, or model. Even though great thought may have gone into buying the perfect gift for someone, our gift may not be completely satisfying to the recipient, making exchanging those gifts inevitable. Nowadays, even retail stores, including those online, make exchanging very convenient and private. Thanks to gift receipts, the giver of the gift does not even have to know their gift was exchanged. Could it be any easier?
While exchanging gifts during the Christmas season may be inevitable, there is a “Great Exchange” that may go unnoticed. It is the exchange that God made for the world, through His Son, Jesus Christ! In John 3:16 we read of God’s extraordinary love for the world –
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him, should not perish but have eternal life.”
Jesus Christ exchanged His life for our sins so that we all may enjoy eternal life in Christ Jesus. All of us have said things, done things, or thought things that are wrong, and in so doing we have sinned. Scripture tells us that there is a penalty to be paid for our sins, and that penalty is death –
“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus, our Lord.” – Romans 3:23
Jesus Christ shed His blood on the cross for our sins, and paid our penalty in full so we could have eternal life. What a great exchange! Jesus’ blood for our sins! Eternal life in exchange for death!
Whether you have ever made a Christmas gift exchange or not, please don’t miss the “Greatest Exchange”, God’s free gift of eternal life through the shed blood of His only Son, Christ Jesus our Lord!
