“Leave No Toys Behind” (Pick A Card Series)
July 15, 2023
“Has everyone picked a moving buddy?
You guys think this is a big joke.
We’ve only got one week left before the move. I don’t want any toys left behind.
A moving buddy. If you don’t have one, get one.”
— Woody from Toy Story
I recently visited the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to view the “Disney100: The Exhibition” which celebrates 100 years of Disney. It was there, while looking at some “Toy Story” artifacts, that I was reminded of Woody’s quote above. If you know anything about “Toy Story” you know that the toys in the story belong to boy named Andy, whose family is moving. Woody, a clear leader of the toys, is encouraging his friends to make sure they have a moving buddy so that no one gets left behind during the move. Mr. Potato Head, holding a disconnected hand in his connected hand, asks Woody if they have to hold hands with their moving buddy. Not a bad question.
Woody’s words, along with this week’s Scripture card, reminded me of the power of encouragement and its ability to uplift, support, and assist others in their pursuits, to offer a helping hand, and to ensure that no one gets left behind during this earthly journey.
We all need those friends in our lives who help us keep pace and encourage us to move toward greater faith and a closer walk with the Lord.
