“got fruit? got faithfulness?
August 20, 2021“22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.”- Galatians 5:22-23
The seventh fruit of the Spirit is faithfulness, and it is the first of the three syllable fruit mentioned in Galatians 5. Many are the definitions of faithfulness, such as firm devotion to God, loyalty to friends, dependability, and a solid conviction that even now God is working and acting on one’s behalf. Also, many are the ways we can speak of being faithful. We can be faithful in responsibilities, commitments, and relationships. However, God is the greatest example of faithfulness:
“21But this I call to mind,
and therefore I have hope:
22 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
23 they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.” – Lamentations 3: 21-23
God’s love is steadfast, unceasing, mercifully new and unending, and great! All of these adjectives are wonderful, but I particularly like that God’s faithfulness is characterized by mercies that never end and are new every morning. When we think about the newness of mercy every morning, we see the following:
- Every morning ends the night
- Every morning brings a new day
- Every morning brings new provision for the day
- Every morning brings new forgiveness for new sins
- Every morning brings new strength for new temptations, duties, and trials
No matter how bad yesterday was, God’s people can look to the new morning of today with faith and hope!
Our God is faithful even if events or circumstances in our lives are difficult and do not always work out as we think they should. God’s faithfulness means He will never violate His character, but He will bring to pass in our lives that which will work together for His glory and our good:
“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”- Romans 8: 28
God is faithful, just as He is good, all the time!
So how are you doing enjoying God’s faithfulness and mercy to you? How are you doing in displaying faithfulness to others, to your responsibilities, and to your commitments? got fruit? got faithfulness?
“Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you;
bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart.” – Proverbs 3: 3
