Show Me!

“Words, words, words! I’m so sick of words!” said Eliza Doolittle to her suitor, Freddy, in the illustrious musical, My Fair Lady. If you’re in love, show me! Don’t talk of love, show me! There isn’t one word I haven’t heard. Show me!
I think if James, the half-brother of Jesus, were to pick a theme song from Broadway musicals, he would pick “Show Me”. After all, his letter in the New Testament is really a “show me” kind of letter. In each of his five chapters, James is clearly teaching to be true possessors of faith and not merely professors of faith in Christ Jesus.
James 1:22: But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves.
James 2:8-9: If, however, you are fulfilling the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing well. But if you show partiality, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as transgressors.
James 3:13: Who among you is wise and understanding? Let him show by his good behavior his deeds in the gentleness of wisdom.
James 4:10: Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you.
James 5:7-8: Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. The farmer waits for the precious produce of the soil, being patient about it, until it gets the early and late rains. You too be patient; strengthen your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is near.
James would most likely sing, “Words, words, words. I’m so sick of words. Show me you possess a living faith by living the Word, loving your neighbor, doing good deeds in the gentleness of wisdom, humbling yourself, and being patient until the coming of the Lord. Show me you possess the faith you profess!”
