“Tastes Like More” (Pick a Card Series)
June 10, 2023Have you ever done a food tasting tour, whether an officially organized event or one of your own making? I have done both types more than once. A group of friends and I participated in a chocolate tour in Philadelphia in which we taste-tested what various chocolatiers had to offer. Chocolate is a food group, right? We also did a Food Truck tour sans a tour guide and chose which food we wished to sample. At the end of both tours, we were satiated and swore off food for the rest of our lives only to be amazed that, hours after sampling, we were hungry again and we wanted more.
Wanting more reminds me of what my Dad would say when complimenting my Mom on a delicious meal. He would say, “It tastes like more!” And isn’t that how it is when our palettes enjoy the taste of delicious food? We want more!
The same desire for more could be the result of accepting the psalmist’s invitation in Psalm 34:8a, “Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good!” David, the author of this psalm, is inviting us to experience for ourselves, what he himself experienced – to draw close to God and to taste His love and goodness.
God offers protection, direction, forgiveness, wisdom, peace, and so much more. He is good! And because He is good, we can attest to the second half of Psalm 34:8 and trust God in all of our circumstances whether good or bad.
“…How blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!” (Psalm 34:8b)
We may run to Him for all things little and big, and sometimes, that leaning becomes a taste test of sorts. Leaning on God during our challenging situations are when we truly taste and see His goodness the most!
The Lord is the author of all things good, and He has good intentions for His children. He has provided good things for them, made good promises to them, and bestows good gifts on them, especially the gift of salvation!
Reflecting, tasting, and seeing the many ways God is good, will leave a very secure and good taste in our mouths which would leave us wanting more!
“3 if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good.” – I Peter 2:3
