“The One Quality I Like Most About My Mom”
May 13, 2023I have never been exceptionally good at answering questions like:
What is your favorite (book, movie, color, food, bible verse)?
What do you like most about (your job, yourself, your friends)?
Needless to say, I had a tough time participating in a recent survey, leading up to Mother’s Day, which asked, “What one quality do you like most about your Mom?” The results of the survey were to be compiled into a tribute for mothers everywhere – a tribute to which I failed to contribute- because I was not good at answering the question.
What do I like most about my Mom? Maybe it is her kindness or her affectionate ways. Maybe it is the way she loved my Dad and the way she loves her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Maybe it is the way she took care of my brothers and me, my father, and herself. Maybe it was that her sandwiches, even simple peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, were the best tasting sandwiches anyone could make.
Maybe it is that she never met a stranger. Maybe it is that she has the ability to turn one kiss on the cheek into multiple kisses in rapid succession, and we all roll our eyes, complain it hurts our ears, while we secretly love it.
Or maybe it is how she polished our shoes the old-fashioned way, and used Q-tips to clean the outside of our ears before we went off to school. Maybe it is that she made my brothers and me breakfast every day before school and then sent us off with a bagged lunch– every single day of school we ever attended. Maybe what I like most about my Mom is her ability to produce the best sentences for spelling words.
Maybe what I like most about my Mom, is her gratitude and how she thanks me every day for taking care of her. Or could it be how she says, “Thank you, Jesus” for every step she now takes. Maybe it is how she fixes her hair right before she goes to the hairdresser. Or maybe it is how she makes me feel like I am the best thing since sliced bread.
Survey says, “What one quality do you like most about Mom?” All of these things, and so much more, because they make her my most favorite Mom! I love her with all the love I am capable of, even if I am incapable of answering a survey about her.
Happy Mother’s Day, Mom! As we always say to each other, “I love you more!” (and for the sake of the survey- MOST)!
28 Her children rise up and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:

but you surpass them all. (Proverbs 31)
