Words About Us

Born and bred Yankee Sheryl Vasso and true-blue Southerner Cammy Tidwell at first glance make an unlikely pair. Dr. Sheryl Vasso, Ed.D carries a BS from St. Joseph’s University, an MAT from The College of New Jersey as well as a Doctorate of Education from Immaculata University. Cammy Tidwell is not slouching in the degree department either having earned a BS in Math at the University of Mississippi and a MCS (Masters of Combined Sciences) at Mississippi College. Both highly value education and not only love the Lord but have given themselves over to him completely.

While Sheryl has spent her life as a devoted daughter, sister, and aunt and the better part of her professional career at Cairn University where she currently holds the position of Chair of the Master of Science and Education Program, Cammy found that marriage and motherhood took her out of the “professional world” for a while although she has never once stopped studying, learning and teaching God’s word.

Even though they attended the same church, Grace Point in Newtown, PA, Cammy and Sheryl didn’t meet until December 2008. Sheryl had been booked as the Christmas tea speaker and Cammy was seated at the same table. The pastor’s wife was thrilled to be the one to introduce them and began the conversation with the words, “Sheryl, have you met my friend Cammy?” Flash forward to April 2009 where both Sheryl and Cammy were attending their church’s annual women’s retreat. It was one at which Cammy had been booked to speak although when Sheryl registered to go, she was unaware of that fact. Upon hearing the news that Sheryl would be attending the retreat, Cammy’s initial reaction was, “Oh no, I can’t speak in front of Sheryl…she’s the real deal” referring to the fact Sheryl is well known for her world traveling teaching and speaking opportunities. But once Cammy got to know Sheryl she quickly learned that although Sheryl was very accomplished in the professional and academic world she was also one of the most humble and approachable women she has ever met. A strong and fast friendship quickly ensued. Sheryl and Cammy realized that they actually had more in common than they realized; they both revered the Word of God and whenever faced with handling it they approached the task with sober reverence. Cammy got over her initial intimidation of Sheryl when Sheryl began attending a Bible Study Cammy was teaching at church.

In October of 2009 Sheryl invited Cammy to co-speak at a retreat with her. Cammy humbly accepted and they discovered their styles, though different, completely enmeshed and furthermore, it was fun. If you have the privilege of hearing Sheryl and Cammy together you will find that all bases are covered. Each brings their own unique life’s perspectives but always come back to the foundation and truth of God’s Word. They are in fact a perfect compliment to one another.

It is a delight to hear the two of them talk as to how God brought them together and they both acknowledge that it was no coincidence but rather a “divine appointment.” So while on the surface it may not appear that these two remarkable women of God have everything in common they do have the most important things in perfect alignment. They are in fact both – the real deal.
