“The words of the LORD are pure words, like silver refined in a furnace on the ground, purified seven times.”
Psalm 12:6 (ESV)

Today, as I prayed Psalm 12, I found myself pondering the sheer volume of words that surround us. They flood our phones, crowd our newsfeeds, and fill our conversations, emails, and minds. In a world so saturated with human noise, the psalm reminded me to look for the pure, flawless words of the Lord.

David begins the psalm with a cry for help because faithfulness seems to be disappearing:

“Save, O LORD, for the godly one is gone; for the faithful have vanished from among the children of man.” — Psalm 12:1

Some people speak lies, flatter, and deceive. They say one thing while meaning another, and their words are divided from their hearts. But then Psalm 12:6 gives us words we can trust. We can trust God’s words because when He speaks, His words are different. They are pure, refined, true, and trustworthy. While human words can change with circumstances, God’s Word remains steadfast.

That contrast is especially important when we feel surrounded by uncertainty. When we’re unsure whom to believe, God’s Word gives us solid ground. When other people’s words have wounded us, God’s Word reminds us of what is true. When our own thoughts become confused or fearful, God’s Word redirects our hearts.

Psalm 12 doesn’t pretend that false words won’t hurt us. It reminds us that God’s words are more trustworthy than the voices competing for our attention. And it challenges us to consider our own words. People who have received God’s truth should have their own wordsbecome increasingly truthful, gracious, and trustworthy. We can’t control every word spoken around us, but we can ask God to control the words spoken through us.

Before we speak today, perhaps we should pause and ask: Are my words reflecting the truth of God’s Word?

Prayer

Lord, in a world filled with competing voices, help me recognize and trust Your truth. Guard my heart from deception and my lips from careless or dishonest words. Let Your Word shape my thoughts, my attitudes, and my conversations. May the words I speak reflect the One whose words are always pure and true. Amen.
