“A Good Time Was Had By All”

A few years ago, a dear friend and I snowmobiled 11,585 feet above sea level, to the Continental Divide in Colorado. We went on this adventure with Good Times outside of Breckenridge. The company’s guides were very knowledgeable and experienced, and Good Times was very particular about a small guide-to-guest ratio and practicing using the snowmobile before taking off on the tour. The guide’s wisdom and leadership allowed for him to effectively and safely guide the group through the crooked and narrow snow covered paths, through the beautiful forest to straighter and broader trails. This ensured that a good and safe time was had by all.
When I think back on that spectacular memory, I am reminded of Proverbs 4:10-12, where Solomon, like his father David before him, taught his son the way of wisdom.
10 Hear, my son, and accept my words,
that the years of your life may be many.
11 I have taught you the way of wisdom;
I have led you in the paths of uprightness.
12 When you walk, your step will not be hampered,
and if you run, you will not stumble.
13 Keep hold of instruction; do not let go;
guard her, for she is your life.
The end result of heeding his father’s words, was that the son would enjoy many years of life, and that his walk would not be hampered, and he could run without stumbling.
Just as our snowmobile guide taught my friend and me the wise way to navigate the path to the Continental Divide, God often places wise guides in our lives to lead us in the way of wisdom and in the paths of uprightness. These wise guides can be any age, but a stereotypical wise person is the man or woman with a touch of gray, or a full head of silver and discernment. So many circumstances in our lives, family and financial issues, career decisions, education advice, require that we have these wise guides.
Following the way of wisdom is a sure fire way to ensure that a good time is had by all!
