If you have the pleasure of talking with Cammy Tidwell for any length of time you will soon realize that she is, as she would say, “A Southerner by the Grace of God.” That is because Cammy has the distinct honor of sharing the birthplace of the king himself, Elvis Presley in Tupelo, Mississippi. And while she may have been born in the same town as a king, she found her Savior early in life. At the ripe young age of 7 Cammy told her mama that she “wanted to be saved” and saved she was. But it wasn’t until she turned 22 that she and her husband Bill entered the waters of baptism together. At that time Cammy told God, “I’m all in – no matter what!” and quickly began growing in her faith under the discipleship of her Sunday School teacher. A few years later Cammy attended her first adult Bible Study and admits she signed up simply because there was free child-care. Little did she know that Bible Study would do more than change her weekly schedule, it would change her very life.
Cammy is the proud mama of college age easy-going musically inclined Wil and her elementary age spit-fire Emily Grace. Like any good Mississippian Cammy enjoys peanut butter and banana sandwiches for breakfast and is always ready with a casserole of hot cheese grits at any time of the day or night for someone in need.
Growing up, Cammy always wanted to be a teacher and that is exactly what she became after earning her BS in Math at the University of Mississippi and her MCS (Masters of Combined Sciences) at Mississippi College. In the past she has taught both high school and college math classes, but her heart is teaching God’s Word.
When it became evident to Cammy and Bill that God was moving them North to Pennsylvania she readily says she came a-kickin’ and a-screamin’ but she now considers it home. Cammy and her family attend Grace Point where she currently serves as the Bible study coordinator as well as a Bible Study teacher. She is also certified as a Precepts Instructor by Precepts Ministries International and is a consultant for students working on their masters’ theses at Cairn University in Langhorne, PA.
Cammy is a voracious reader, a gifted writer, a one time marathoner, and can text like a teenager. She also happens to be a remarkable friend, but wait until she has had her first cup o’ joe in the morning to talk with her.
Within moments of hearing Cammy teach, her masterful and accurate handling of God’s word is evident as is her passion to compel women to seek God. After many years of faithfully meeting with and enjoying intimate moments with her Maker, it is no wonder that Cammy longs to enlighten, ignite, and gently persuade others through her teaching, speaking and writing.
One of Cammy’s many favorite verses is Ps. 18:30, “As for God, His way is blameless. The word of the Lord is flawless.” And if you know Cammy you know that she not only treasures this verse but every other verse in the Bible as well.
